RPG What makes an RPG?

I like the definition that RPG is a genre of video game where the gamer controls a fictional character (or characters) that undertakes a quest in an imaginary world.

What do you think guys?

in RPG games, you get to control the player and their roles in a game setting while you conquer whatever you have to do in the game. The good thing about RPG's is that it's a wide niche so there is always some type of new game coming out for that genre and it's never the same.

For me there are two.

Role playing where YOU can be whatever you want (Customized your character, name them, play whatever style you want). Games like Divinity, Baldurs Gate etc

OR

Role playing where you play the role of someone else, Games like Witcher 3 where you play Geralt
